We've seen the photos and headlines all over the internet this week of our
favorite stars living it up at Coachella. The majority of us are a little
puzzled though, what exactly is Coachella? What is this bizarre place where
all the celebrities go to party like rock stars (which is understandable
considering half of them are) and wear strange outfits with flower
headbands and tie-dye pants?

Coachella is actually an abbreviation for the Coachella Valley Music and
Arts Festival, which is named after a city in Riverside County, California.
The festival itself is held at Empire Polo Fields in Indio, California. The
festival began in 1999, and has grown in popularity each year. Some people
refer to Coachella as a sober and more organized version of the historical
music festival, Woodstock.

The tickets are generally extremely hard to come by and are typically sold
out by the time the festival starts. This year tickets to the April
festival were sold out by mid January. If you do manage to score tickets,
you are in store for two weekends of camping, festivities, art exhibits
(including sculptures) and live music. One individual weekend pass (without
any parking or camping options) can cost someone between $350.00 and
$400.00. The largest pass you can purchase which includes full access and a
state of the art camping tent starts at $6,500.00. If it makes you feel

*Coachella*, *Coachellafest*, or *Coachella Festival*) is an annual
three-day music and arts festival, founded by Paul Tollett, organized by
Goldenvoice (a subsidiary of AEG Live), and held at the Empire Polo Club in
Indio, California in the Inland Empire's Coachella Valley. The event
features many music genres, including rock, indie, hip hop, and electronic
music, as well as sculpture. Across the grounds, several stages
continuously host live music. The main stages are: Coachella Stage, Outdoor
Theatre, Gobi Tent, Mojave Tent, and the Sahara Tent (2006 and 2011 also
featured the addition of a smaller Oasis Dome and 2013 featured a new Yuma
